Pats Wary of the Wildcat

New England intend to go into their rematch with the Dolphins better prepared this time round.

In the first game the Dolphins wildcat formation tore the Patriots defense apart as running back Ronnie Brown scored five touchdowns, including one passing touchdown.

Coach Bill Bellichick knows that the wildcat isn't the only problem the Pats will have to prepare for. Joey Porter the current NFL sack leader will have to be contained, especially considering the way Porter has spoke in the media.

Will Allen, the Dolphins defensive captain is also a force to be reckoned as he has recored 2 interceptions and 36 tackles.

The Dolphins' first pick from last year, WR Ted Ginn Jr, got booed when his name was annouced instead of Brady Quinn. Is anyone laughing now? Ginn has been catching everything thrown his way and is now a major part of the offence.

It isn't all doom and gloom though. Lets not forget Matt Cassel's 400 yards passing and 3 touchdowns last week in New England's losing attempt against the Jets.

Wes Welker is also having a fantastic season and has established himself as Cassel's favourite receiver. With Randy Moss on the field as well the offence can be as potent as Cassel can make it.

A major factor in this game will be Bellichick. As one of the best coaches in the league Bellichick should be able to overcome whatever the Dolphins throw at him.

Miami to win and here’s why…!

Not Miami’s defence but Chad Pennington. The Dolphins QB has completed 67% of his passes this season for an average gain of 7.6 yards per attempt. This is not short yardage completions or dropping the ball off to the backs, believe it or not Pennington is more than capable of airing the ball out when he needs to. Pennington is currently ranked 7th in the NFL QB table and the Pats will force Chad to beat them through the air. To stop Miami running riot again the Pats will play eight men in the box, in an attempt to slow down the rushing attack of Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams. This will leave single coverage in secondary allowing for Pennington to make the big plays. I wouldn’t count on seeing the wildcat but Miami exploiting New England’s poor pass coverage defence. Dolphin’s win 24-17

I was wrong…looks like the Pats are still a dominant force in the AFC and can still grab wildcard spot. Matt Cassel has shown is recently weeks he is a starting NFL QB and could potential create an interesting situation if New England went on to win the Superbowl, although highly unlikely (possible next blog topic). My money is still on the Giants!!
